Five Days Before the Harvest by Nels Hanson
Just before the raisin harvest, an omniscient specter floats over and around the lives of a farming family. Hanson’s word painting is sensory and exquisite.

Precarious Paramour
A modern tale of jealously and sexual ennui by Holly Current
I look past him, willing headlights to emerge through the trees that line the dirty one-way street. Perrin turns and does the same. Our anticipation is palpable in the air. I feel as though I can grab it, wring it out, and produce moisture, like I could my damp dress.

Amphibiocracy by Timothy Bearly
Things went from bad to worse when a few shrewd frogs decided that they would simply claim all available pond space for themselves and charge a fee for the new immigrants to live there. Ipso facto government was founded, ergo a new system was designed, a caste system, a system in which the propertied class became the masters, and the propertyless became vassals. http://ping.fm/AMVpb
The July issue of The Write Room features seven brilliant short pieces of fiction and nineteen moving works of poetry. I invite you to read, enjoy, and share the issue.

Support Jimmy Ganootz
My buddy Michael Lipoma’s screenplay The Lost Notebooks of Jimmy Ganootz, Culinary Secrets of a Wise Guy on the Run is one of four finalists trying to win the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Pitch. The prize is a series of meetings with producers of films similar to the winner. This could be Michael’s big break. Michael and I took writing classes together & I know he’s a terrific writer. His work is imaginative & funny as hell. Michael’s is clearly the best pitch; however, these kinds of contests go to the person garnering the most votes. Voting ends Monday. Please support Michael. Thanks.
